I think my friends would describe me as
intelligent, funny, gregarious, and someone that
occasionally suffers from foot-in-mouth disease. (I'm
trying to be honest here!) LOL I'm generally
easy-going and believe that Christians should be the
happiest people on the face of the earth.
I also
believe that they would tell you that I am scrupulously
honest, always able to keep a confidence, a good
mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend.
Relationships are important to me and I work hard to
maintain them. My children are the most important
people in my life and I believe that mothering was the
most important job I could ever have held. My goal was
to rear independent, autonomous adults who were serving
God in their daily lives. I hope that's what I've
accomplished.
My faith is the essence of who I
am. I have always been a religious person and, as I
age and mature, I am hoping to move from "religious" to
"righteous". That is my goal; to be a righteous woman
in the sight of God. In addition to my relationship
with God, I believe it is important to have a good
relationship with other children of God. God intended
for us to be support for one another and I believe it
is terribly important.
Let's see...I love to
sing. I'm an alto and I shoulda been the girl in the
back on the right singing the doo-wops. :) I like
anything that will let me sing along, so that includes
gospel, bluegrass, the torch songs of the 40s, musical
scores of the 50s...you get the idea.
I love to
read, though I am having to learn how to read for
pleasure again. I've been in school for the last few
years and was used to skimming for content. It took a
while to learn to relax and read just for fun. I like
movies...light ones with happy endings. After all, I
can be depressed all by myself. Why pay someone to
depress me?! I also love live theater. That's
probably my favorite leisure activity.
As for
outdoor things, I enjoy walking and used to do some
camping. The ex got custody of all the camping stuff,
so I haven't done that in several years, but wouldn't
mind starting again. I play a little golf now and
then. Actually, I'm the world's best golfing partner
because I enjoy the game, but I'm REALLY bad. That
means my partner always wins, but I don't mind.
LOL
I grew up in Texas and attended several
schools here. Having been a teacher for so many years,
I think school was a natural place to gravitate. When
I was divorcing, I went back to school...more for
therapy than anything else. About a year into it, I
decided that I should go ahead for the degree. I
recently finished my doctorate in Family Studies and am
hoping to utilize that education and background in my
new position.
I love to travel and have traveled
extensively in the U.S. I've done a little bit of
international travel (Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, and
Japan), but I would certainly enjoy doing more of both.
An ideal adventure? Hard to say; there are so many
choices. One thing I enjoy doing is taking a road trip
through the U.S., using roads other than the
Interstate. I like to explore the small towns and out
of the way places. Also, I refuse to eat at any place
that I can eat at home. After all, why travel
thousands of miles to eat at a Burger
King?!?
